aspirin + cyclosporine

For healthcare professionals — reference only. This page is a brief summary, not medical advice and not a substitute for official labeling or clinical judgement. Always verify before prescribing or dispensing.

Overview

Severity: Major · Evidence level: High

NSAIDs, including aspirin, may potentiate cyclosporine-associated nephrotoxicity and impair renal function.

Mechanism of action

Pharmacodynamic: NSAID-induced afferent arteriolar constriction plus cyclosporine renal vasoconstriction → additive reduction in renal blood flow/GFR.

Clinical management

Avoid chronic/high-dose NSAIDs. If low-dose aspirin is required for antiplatelet therapy, use the lowest effective dose and monitor serum creatinine/eGFR (and cyclosporine troughs) periodically.
