azithromycin + lumefantrine
For healthcare professionals — reference only. This page is a brief summary, not medical advice and not a substitute for official labeling or clinical judgement. Always verify before prescribing or dispensing.
Overview
Additive QT/QTc prolongation may increase risk of torsades de pointes and ventricular arrhythmias.
Mechanism of action
Pharmacodynamic: both agents can prolong cardiac repolarization (IKr/hERG blockade) → additive QT prolongation; risk heightened with hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia, bradycardia, or structural heart disease.
Clinical management
Avoid combination if possible. If necessary, obtain baseline and follow-up ECGs, correct K/Mg, avoid other QT-prolonging drugs, and monitor for palpitations/syncope; consider telemetry in high-risk patients.
