Indications
Mécanisme d'action
L-ornithine L-aspartate supplies two amino acids that lower blood ammonia. Ornithine activates the hepatic urea cycle (carbamoyl phosphate synthetase) and is a substrate for it, increasing conversion of ammonia to urea in periportal hepatocytes.
Posologie adulte habituelle (résumé de la notice)
Hepatic encephalopathy (latent or manifest), oral granules: 3 to 6 g (1 to 2 sachets of 3 g) up to three times daily. Usual maximum is 18 g/day.
Grossesse et allaitement
- Grossesse
- Unknown No adequate human data. Labels (e.g. Hepa-Merz) advise avoiding it in pregnancy unless clearly necessary. Ornithine and aspartate are natural amino acids, but high doses used for liver disease have not been studied in pregnancy.
- Allaitement
- Unknown Not known if it passes into milk; no LactMed or e-lactancia record. Labels: avoid breastfeeding during treatment unless clearly necessary. Both components are natural amino acids, but high-dose effects on the infant are unstudied; avoid if possible or watch the infant.
Effets indésirables signalés
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Flatulence
- Diarrhoea
- Limb pain
Contre-indications
- Hypersensitivity to ornithine aspartate or to any of the excipients.
- Severe renal insufficiency (serum creatinine above 3 mg/100 mL).
Précautions particulières
- With high doses, monitor serum and urine urea levels.
- Do not exceed an IV infusion rate of 5 g per hour; faster infusion increases nausea and vomiting.
- Hepatic encephalopathy may impair the ability to drive and use machines; take this into account during treatment.
Informez votre pharmacien ou votre médecin en cas de grossesse ou d'allaitement, de maladie rénale ou hépatique, d'allergies, ainsi que de tout autre médicament ou complément que vous prenez.
