Indications
Mécanisme d'action
Rupatadine is a second-generation antihistamine, long-acting histamine antagonist, with selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist activity. Some of the metabolites (desloratadine and its hydroxylated metabolites) retain an antihistaminic activity and may partially contribute to the overall efficacy of the drug.
Posologie adulte habituelle (résumé de la notice)
Adults and adolescents (over 12 years of age): The recommended dose is 10 mg (one tablet) once a day, with or without food.

- Unknown Limited human data; no harm in animal studies. UK label: as a precaution, preferably avoid in pregnancy. Loratadine or cetirizine are the preferred antihistamines in pregnancy.
- Allaitement
- Unknown Not known if it passes into milk (found in animal milk). UK label: decide whether to stop breastfeeding or the drug. LactMed: two breastfed infants had no effects, but one mother on a double dose had falling milk supply; an alternative may be preferred. Watch for drowsiness.

Contre-indications
- Hypersensitivity to rupatadine or any ingredient in the formulation or component of the container.
- History of QT prolongation and/or torsade de pointes, including congenital long QT syndromes, or history of cardiac arrhythmias.
- Use of CYP3A4 inhibitors or other QTc-prolonging drugs.
Précautions particulières
- Due to the presence of lactose monohydrate in rupatadine 10 mg tablets, patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, total lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine.
- Contraindicated in children under 2 years
- Not all formulations are suitable for use in children under 12 years
