Mécanisme d'action
Tebipenem pivoxil is an oral prodrug. It is hydrolysed to tebipenem, a carbapenem beta-lactam antibiotic that binds penicillin-binding proteins and inhibits bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan synthesis. This leads to bactericidal activity.

Précautions particulières
- Pivoxil-containing antibiotics can cause hypocarnitinaemia with hypoglycaemia, especially in infants and young children. Convulsions or impaired consciousness may occur. Monitor closely and avoid prolonged use.
- Before treatment, ask about previous hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics (penicillins, cephalosporins, carbapenems), because cross-reactivity is possible.
- Shock and anaphylaxis can occur. Stop treatment and give appropriate care if signs appear.
