Mécanisme d'action
Triheptanoin is a medium-chain triglyceride of three odd-chain 7-carbon fatty acids (heptanoate) that provide calories and fatty acids to bypass long-chain FAOD enzyme deficiencies for energy production.
Posologie adulte habituelle (résumé de la notice)
LC-FAOD: target up to 35% of total prescribed daily caloric intake (DCI), oral or feeding tube, divided into at least four doses mixed into food/liquid at mealtimes or with snacks.
Grossesse et allaitement
- Grossesse
- Unknown No human data; a pregnancy safety study exists. In rats and rabbits, skeletal findings and lower litter weights were linked to reduced maternal food intake (taste aversion), which the label considers not relevant to humans. Continue only with specialist advice.
- Allaitement
- Unknown No data on milk levels or infant effects; no LactMed record. It is a medium-chain triglyceride; such fats are normal milk components. US label: weigh the benefits of breastfeeding against the clinical need.
Effets indésirables signalés
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Nausea
Précautions particulières
- Feeding tube dysfunction was reported in clinical trials; monitor the tube regularly and do not use PVC feeding tubes.
- Pancreatic insufficiency may reduce absorption of heptanoate; avoid use in these patients.
