उपयोग

यह कैसे काम करती है

Non-absorbed cation exchange polymer with a calcium-sorbitol counterion. It binds potassium in the GI lumen, increasing fecal potassium excretion and lowering serum potassium.

Hyperkalemia: starting dose 8.4 grams orally once daily; increase in increments of 8.4 grams at 1-week or longer intervals based on serum potassium; maximum 25.2 grams once daily

Safe Not absorbed from the gut, so maternal use is not expected to expose the fetus. Can be used when needed to treat high potassium.

  • History of hypersensitivity reaction to Veltassa or any of its components

  • Avoid in severe constipation, bowel obstruction or impaction, including abnormal post-operative bowel motility disorders; may be ineffective and may worsen GI conditions.
  • Binds magnesium in the colon and can cause hypomagnesemia; monitor serum magnesium and consider supplementation if low.
  • Not for emergency treatment of life-threatening hyperkalemia because of delayed onset of action.
