- Unsafe Not known if it passes into human milk; it passes into rat milk and is 99% protein bound. EU label: contraindicated; US label: not recommended (possible effects on infant lipid metabolism). - Myopathy risk factors include: age ≥65 yr, uncontrolled hypothyroidism, renal impairment, coadministration of drugs that decrease statin clearance or add to myopathy risk
- Contraindicated: Coadministration with cyclosporine
Unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness while taking a statin should be reported promptly. Statins are not used in pregnancy, and some other medicines raise their levels and risk.
