Hyperosmotic dehydrating agent; draws fluid into colon, increases osmotic pressure, and stimulates evacuation.

Occasional Constipation (suppository): 2-2.8 g suppository inserted in rectum, retain for about 15 min PRN or as directed

- Safe Glycerin (glycerol) suppositories, enemas, skin and ear products act locally with little absorption and are commonly used in pregnancy, e.g. for constipation. Acceptable at usual doses.

- Safe Local products (suppositories, skin, ear) give little absorption, and glycerol is a normal body substance. Compatible with breastfeeding.

- GI obstruction, severe impaction

- Contraindicated in GI obstruction, severe impaction.
- Rectal bleeding or failure to have bowel movement requires physician care.
- Contact physician before use if experience sudden change in bowel habits that last >2 wk.
