Как действует
Antipseudomonal penicillin plus beta-lactamase inhibitor; inhibits biosynthesis of cell wall mucopeptide synthesis by binding to 1 or more of the penicillin-binding proteins and is effective during active-multiplication stage

Intra-abdominal Infections: 3.375 g IV q6hr (totaling 13.5 g [12 g piperacillin/1.5 g tazobactam]) for 7-10 days

Penicillin antibiotics are taken by mouth or given by injection at regular intervals for a set number of days; the course should be completed even when symptoms improve early.

- Safe Both drugs cross the placenta; there are insufficient data to show a risk, and penicillins have long use in pregnancy without evidence of fetal harm. No malformations in rats or mice. Safe to use when indicated.

- Safe Piperacillin passes into milk in low amounts, not expected to harm the infant; tazobactam is unstudied. LactMed: occasionally diarrhoea or thrush. Acceptable; breastfeeding can continue.

- Prolonged use may result in fungal or bacterial superinfection
- Leukopenia/neutropenia associated with prolonged therapy; periodic assessment of hematopoietic function should be performed,
- Increased frequency of fever and rash reported in patients with cystic fibrosis receiving piperacillin
Anyone who has had an allergic reaction to a penicillin or another beta-lactam antibiotic must tell the prescriber before taking one. Severe or persistent diarrhoea during or after a course needs medical advice.
