Кратко
Levodopa is converted to dopamine and noradrenaline, and a non-selective MAO inhibitor (tranylcypromine) prevents their breakdown so the amines accumulate. Entacapone further impairs catecholamine breakdown through COMT inhibition. Severe hypertension, flushing, headache and hyperpyrexia may follow.
