  • Known allergy to the cephalosporin group of antibiotics
  • History of cephalosporin associated hemolytic anemia

  • Check for previous hypersensitivity to cephalosporins, penicillins or other drugs; cross-hypersensitivity among beta-lactams may occur in up to 10% of penicillin-allergic patients. Discontinue if allergic reaction occurs.
  • Immune mediated hemolytic anemia, including fatal cases, with at least 3 fold increased risk versus other cephalosporins; consider if anemia develops within 2 to 3 weeks after dosing, stop drug and monitor hematologic parameters.
  • Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea may occur, even over two months after antibiotic use.
