Injectable cyclohexapeptide somatostatin analogue that binds and activates somatostatin receptors (notably SSTR5, over-expressed in corticotroph tumors), inhibiting ACTH secretion and thereby decreasing cortisol secretion.

  • Hypocortisolism may occur; monitor, and consider dose reduction or interruption and temporary glucocorticoid replacement.
  • Hyperglycemia and diabetes: monitor glycemia weekly for first two to three months and after dose increases; optimize antidiabetic therapy before starting.
  • Bradycardia and QT prolongation: use caution in at-risk patients; baseline ECG recommended; correct hypokalemia and hypomagnesemia.
