Summary
At analgesic or anti-inflammatory doses, aspirin can blunt the effect of olmesartan and worsen renal function, especially in elderly or volume-depleted patients. Low-dose cardioprotective aspirin has much less effect.
What this interaction means in plain words
Amlodipine-olmesartan and Aspirin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Aspirin inhibits vasodilatory renal prostaglandins, reducing renal perfusion and opposing angiotensin receptor blocker effects.
What to do
Monitor blood pressure, creatinine and potassium when higher-dose aspirin is used, and ensure hydration. Low-dose aspirin usually needs no change.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
