Summary
Tenofovir DF can cause proximal renal tubulopathy with potassium, phosphate and bicarbonate wasting. Dichlorphenamide also promotes potassium loss and acidosis. Together they may worsen hypokalemia and acid-base disturbance.
What this interaction means in plain words
Dichlorphenamide and Tenofovir df can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Additive renal potassium and bicarbonate loss via tubular effects of tenofovir and carbonic anhydrase inhibition.
What to do
Monitor serum potassium, bicarbonate, phosphate and renal function regularly. Replace potassium as needed and reassess therapy if tubular toxicity develops.
