Triclofos is a sedative-hypnotic whose active metabolite, trichloroethanol, depresses the CNS. Adding a sedating antihistamine can cause excessive drowsiness, impaired psychomotor performance and, at higher doses, respiratory depression.
What this interaction means in plain words
Diphenhydramine and Triclofos can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Additive CNS depression between a sedating H1-antihistamine and a chloral-derivative hypnotic.
What to do
Avoid concurrent use when possible, and reduce the triclofos dose if both are required. Monitor sedation level, particularly in children and older adults.
