Summary
Exemestane is an aromatase inactivator used to lower estrogen in postmenopausal women with breast cancer. Giving an estrogen-containing contraceptive works against its purpose, and the combination is not appropriate. The patient is also unlikely to need a contraceptive in this setting.
What this interaction means in plain words
Ethinyl estradiol-levonorgestrel and Exemestane can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
