Both beta-2 agonists and corticosteroids can lower serum potassium. Together they may add to hypokalemia, particularly with high steroid doses, in patients with other potassium-wasting drugs, or with hypoxia.

What this interaction means in plain words

Hydrocortisone and Indacaterol inhaled can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Additive potassium lowering through beta-2 stimulated intracellular shift and mineralocorticoid-mediated renal potassium loss.

What to do

Monitor serum potassium in patients on systemic hydrocortisone, especially with other hypokalemic drugs. Replace potassium as needed.
