Summary

Norepinephrine is a potent vasopressor and levosalbutamol is a beta-2 agonist, so together they can add to tachycardia, arrhythmia risk and blood pressure changes. Beta-agonists may also lower serum potassium, which adds to arrhythmic risk in critically ill patients.

What this interaction means in plain words

Levosalbutamol and Norepinephrine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Additive adrenergic receptor stimulation and beta-2 mediated intracellular potassium shift.

What to do

Monitor ECG, blood pressure and serum potassium during concurrent use, and titrate norepinephrine to hemodynamic targets. Limit levosalbutamol dosing frequency where feasible.

What to ask your pharmacist

  • Should I take them at different times of day?
  • Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
  • Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
