Summary
Zanubrutinib is mainly cleared by CYP3A4, and moderate or strong inhibitors of this enzyme increase its exposure. Metronidazole is not a recognized moderate CYP3A4 inhibitor, so any increase is probably small. Higher exposure would raise the risk of bleeding, infection and cytopenias.
What this interaction means in plain words
Metronidazole and Zanubrutinib have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.
Metronidazole belongs to Anti Parasitic; Zanubrutinib belongs to Oncology.
Why it happens
Possible weak inhibition of CYP3A4-mediated zanubrutinib metabolism.
What to do
No routine dose reduction is needed; monitor blood counts and watch for bleeding or infection during a metronidazole course.
