Summary

Both drugs lower blood pressure, so combined use gives additive effects that are usually therapeutic but may cause hypotension or dizziness. Both can also modestly raise serum potassium, and olmesartan is harmful in pregnancy independent of propranolol.

What this interaction means in plain words

Olmesartan and Propranolol can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Olmesartan belongs to Cardiovascular; Propranolol belongs to Cardiovascular.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Additive antihypertensive effects, with angiotensin receptor blockade reducing aldosterone-mediated potassium excretion and beta-blockade impairing cellular potassium uptake.

What to do

Monitor blood pressure and serum potassium, especially in renal impairment or diabetes. Avoid in pregnancy because of olmesartan.
