Indications
Mécanisme d'action
Dihydrotachysterol is effective in the elevation of serum calcium by stimulating intestinal calcium absorption and mobilizing bone calcium in the absence of parathyroid hormone and of functioning renal tissue. Dihydrotachysterol also increases renal phosphate excretion.
Posologie adulte habituelle (résumé de la notice)
Hypocalcemia : Initial dose: 0.25 to 0.8 mg orally once a day for several days. Maintenance dose: 0.2 to 1 mg orally once a day.
Grossesse et allaitement
- Grossesse
- Safe Vitamin D analogue, now largely discontinued. Correct doses for hypoparathyroidism are not linked to birth defects, but overdose and high maternal calcium can harm fetal development (aorta, retina). If needed, continue with regular calcium checks.
- Allaitement
- Unknown No data on milk levels; other vitamin D analogues pass into milk. Swiss label: do not breastfeed while taking it. German label: breastfeeding needs close blood calcium checks in mother and infant. If used, monitor the infant's calcium.
Effets indésirables signalés
- Dry mouth
- Vomiting
- Nausea
- Bone pain, hard lumps under your skin
- Eyes that are more sensitive to light;
- Metallic taste in your mouth
Contre-indications
- Hypercalcaemia.
- Hypervitaminosis D (vitamin D toxicity).
- Abnormal sensitivity to the effects of vitamin D.
Précautions particulières
- Monitor serum calcium regularly, frequently during dose titration and periodically during maintenance, because the margin between therapeutic and toxic doses is narrow.
- Hypercalcaemia may develop. Signs include weakness, fatigue, headache, nausea, vomiting, constipation, polyuria, polydipsia and confusion. Stop treatment if hypercalcaemia occurs.
- Effects may persist for days to weeks after stopping because of prolonged action, so hypercalcaemia may not resolve immediately.
Informez votre pharmacien ou votre médecin en cas de grossesse ou d'allaitement, de maladie rénale ou hépatique, d'allergies, ainsi que de tout autre médicament ou complément que vous prenez.
