Locally acting chloride channel activator; increases intestinal fluid secretion and intestinal motility; acts locally at apical portion of intestine.

Grossesse et allaitement
- Grossesse
- Unknown Limited human data. Little drug reaches the blood (one metabolite is measurable). No birth defects in rats or rabbits; fetal loss in guinea pigs was probably due to maternal toxicity. Use only if the benefit justifies the risk; osmotic laxatives or fibre are usual first choices.
- Allaitement
- Safe No human milk data; neither lubiprostone nor its active metabolite was found in rat milk, so little is expected in human milk. LactMed: not expected to harm the infant. If used, watch the infant for diarrhoea.

- Headache
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
Contre-indications
- Hypersensitivity
- Mechanical GI obstruction
Précautions particulières
- Syncope and hypotension reported, some of which required hospitalization; most cases occurred in patients taking 24 mcg twice daily and some occurred within hours.
