Terhesség és szoptatás
- Terhesség
- Unknown Older sedating antihistamine (tablets, injection, and eye drops with naphazoline). Human data are limited, with no clear link to birth defects. Loratadine, cetirizine or chlorphenamine have more data and are preferred. Eye drops give low exposure; avoid decongestant combinations early in pregnancy.
- Szoptatás
- Unknown Not known if it passes into milk; no LactMed record. Like other sedating antihistamines, regular doses may sedate the infant or reduce milk supply. Prefer loratadine or a small bedtime dose of chlorphenamine; eye drops give low exposure.
Jelentett mellékhatások
- Drowsiness
- Sedation
- Upset Stomach
- Dry Mouth
Ellenjavallatok
- Hypersensitivity to pheniramine, to other antihistamines of similar chemical structure, or to any of the excipients.
- Patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), or within 14 days of stopping them. MAOIs may prolong and intensify the anticholinergic and CNS depressant effects of antihistamines.
- Neonates and premature infants.
Kinek kell óvatosnak lennie
- Pheniramine may cause drowsiness, dizziness and blurred vision. Patients should not drive or operate machinery if affected.
- Sedation is increased by alcohol and other CNS depressants, such as hypnotics, anxiolytics, opioids and sedating antidepressants. Avoid alcohol.
- Because of its antimuscarinic effects, use with caution in angle-closure glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, urinary retention, bladder neck obstruction and pyloroduodenal obstruction.
