Összefoglaló
Sodium picosulfate is a prodrug that colonic bacteria convert to its active laxative form. Antibiotics that disrupt the colonic flora may reduce this activation and lead to poorer bowel cleansing before colonoscopy. Parenteral penicillin G has limited colonic exposure, so the effect is likely smaller than with oral antibiotics, but labeling advises caution.
Mit jelent ez a kölcsönhatás közérthetően
Benzathine penicillin g and Sodium picosulfate / magnesium oxide / anhydrous citric acid can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Miért jön létre
Antibiotic-induced alteration of colonic bacteria may reduce conversion of sodium picosulfate to its active metabolite.
Teendő
Where possible, avoid scheduling the antibiotic course around the bowel preparation. Assess the quality of bowel cleansing and consider additional preparation if cleansing is inadequate.
