Bismuth subsalicylate is hydrolysed to salicylate, and dichlorphenamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor; with salicylates it can accumulate salicylate and worsen metabolic acidosis. Tachypnoea, lethargy and coma have been reported with high-dose aspirin.

Mit jelent ez a kölcsönhatás közérthetően

Bismuth subsalicylate and Dichlorphenamide can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.

Bismuth subsalicylate belongs to Gastrointestinal Tract; Dichlorphenamide belongs to Miscellaneous.

Bizonyítékszint: Moderate

Miért jön létre

Carbonic anhydrase inhibition causes metabolic acidosis and reduced salicylate renal clearance, raising salicylate levels

Teendő

Avoid bismuth subsalicylate during dichlorphenamide therapy; if salicylate is needed use lowest dose and monitor acid-base status and symptoms of salicylism.
