Összefoglaló

Ceftriaxone can form insoluble ceftriaxone-calcium precipitates when mixed with calcium in IV lines or in the body. Fatal cases of lung and kidney crystalline deposits have been reported, mainly in neonates. Oral calcium acetate used as a phosphate binder has negligible systemic exposure to this risk, so concern applies mainly to IV calcium.

Mit jelent ez a kölcsönhatás közérthetően

Calcium acetate and Ceftriaxone can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.

Calcium acetate belongs to Genitourinary; Ceftriaxone belongs to Anti Bacterial.

Bizonyítékszint: High

Miért jön létre

Ceftriaxone binds calcium to form insoluble calcium-ceftriaxone salt that precipitates.

Teendő

Never mix ceftriaxone with calcium-containing IV solutions or give them simultaneously through the same line. In non-neonates, give sequentially with thorough line flushing; in neonates avoid IV calcium during ceftriaxone treatment and for 48 hours after the last dose.
