Összefoglaló
Sodium picosulfate is a prodrug that must be converted to its active laxative form by colonic bacteria. Antibiotics that suppress colonic flora may reduce this activation and lead to poorer bowel cleansing before colonoscopy. Cefazolin is given parenterally, so the effect is likely smaller than with oral antibiotics, but labeling advises caution.
Mit jelent ez a kölcsönhatás közérthetően
Cefazolin and Sodium picosulfate / magnesium oxide / anhydrous citric acid can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Miért jön létre
Antibiotic suppression of colonic bacteria needed to convert sodium picosulfate to its active metabolite.
Teendő
Assess bowel preparation adequacy before the procedure and consider extra preparation or rescheduling if cleansing is poor. Where possible, avoid starting antibiotics around the time of the preparation.
