Összefoglaló
Sodium picosulfate is a prodrug activated by colonic bacteria to its laxative form. Antibiotics that suppress colonic flora may reduce this activation and lead to a poorer bowel cleansing before colonoscopy. Systemically given cefepime has less gut effect than oral antibiotics, but labeling still cautions about antibiotics.
Mit jelent ez a kölcsönhatás közérthetően
Cefepime and Sodium picosulfate / magnesium oxide / anhydrous citric acid can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Miért jön létre
Antibiotic suppression of colonic bacteria needed to convert sodium picosulfate to its active metabolite.
Teendő
Where possible, avoid starting antibiotics shortly before the bowel prep, or confirm adequate cleansing and consider an alternative preparation if the antibiotic cannot be avoided.
