Összefoglaló
Sodium picosulfate is a prodrug that needs colonic bacteria to convert it into its active laxative form. A broad-spectrum carbapenem such as ertapenem can suppress colonic flora and may reduce the bowel-cleansing effect before colonoscopy.
Mit jelent ez a kölcsönhatás közérthetően
Ertapenem and Sodium picosulfate / magnesium oxide / anhydrous citric acid can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Miért jön létre
Antibiotic-induced reduction of colonic bacteria impairs conversion of sodium picosulfate to its active metabolite.
Teendő
Watch for inadequate bowel preparation in patients on the antibiotic and consider extra preparation or rescheduling if cleansing is poor. Where possible, avoid starting the antibiotic during the preparation window.
