Összefoglaló
Alcohol can cause unpredictable glycemic effects in insulin-treated patients. It suppresses hepatic gluconeogenesis, which can produce serious and delayed hypoglycemia, particularly when drinking occurs without food, while sugary drinks can raise glucose. Hypoglycemia symptoms may also be mistaken for intoxication.
Mit jelent ez a kölcsönhatás közérthetően
Ethanol and Insulin glargine can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Miért jön létre
Ethanol inhibits hepatic gluconeogenesis and impairs counterregulatory response, augmenting insulin-induced hypoglycemia.
Teendő
Advise patients to drink only in moderation and with food, and to monitor blood glucose more often, including overnight and the next morning. Ensure companions know how to recognize and treat hypoglycemia.
