Systemic pentamidine can prolong the QT interval and has been linked to torsades de pointes, and ziprasidone has similar effects. Using both increases the risk of serious ventricular arrhythmias. Pentamidine can also cause electrolyte disturbances that worsen this risk.

Pentamidine and Ziprasidone are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.

Additive QT prolongation through cardiac repolarization delay, with pentamidine-related hypokalemia or hypomagnesemia as a contributor.
