Összefoglaló
Triamterene reduces renal potassium excretion, and potassium citrate supplies additional potassium. Together they can cause dangerous hyperkalemia with cardiac arrhythmias, particularly in renal impairment. Potassium citrate labeling lists potassium-sparing diuretics as a contraindication.
Mit jelent ez a kölcsönhatás közérthetően
Potassium citrate / citric acid and Triamterene are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Miért jön létre
Reduced renal potassium elimination from triamterene combined with exogenous potassium load.
Teendő
Avoid the combination; use an alternative diuretic or urinary alkalinizer. If unavoidable, monitor potassium and ECG closely.
