Összefoglaló
Both are long-acting inhaled muscarinic antagonists, so using them together duplicates therapy without clear added benefit and increases anticholinergic adverse effects. These include dry mouth, urinary retention, glaucoma worsening and tachycardia.
Mit jelent ez a kölcsönhatás közérthetően
Tiotropium and Umeclidinium bromide can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Miért jön létre
Duplicate muscarinic receptor antagonism with additive systemic anticholinergic exposure.
Teendő
Avoid concurrent use and choose a single long-acting antimuscarinic. If one is replaced, stop the first before starting the second.
