Per cosa si usa
Come agisce
Topical hydroquinone produces reversible depigmentation of the skin by inhibiting the enzymatic oxidation of tyrosine to dopa and suppressing other melanocyte metabolic processes.
Dose abituale nell'adulto (sintesi del foglio illustrativo)
Hyperpigmented skin conditions (chloasma, melasma, freckles, senile lentigines): apply to affected areas topically twice daily, morning and before bedtime, or as directed by a physician; discontinue if no lightening after two months
Gravidanza e allattamento
- Gravidanza
- Unknown Topical skin lightener; unlike most skin products, a relatively high share of applied hydroquinone is absorbed. No animal studies and very limited human data (US label: use only if clearly needed). Skin lightening can wait: avoid in pregnancy, as melasma often fades after delivery.
- Allattamento
- Unknown Not studied in breastfeeding. LactMed: not contraindicated, but some experts advise against long-term use. If used, keep the infant's skin and mouth away from treated areas.
Effetti indesiderati segnalati
- Localized contact dermatitis (cutaneous hypersensitivity)
- Blue-black skin darkening (rare)
Controindicazioni
- Prior history of sensitivity or allergic reaction to hydroquinone or any of the other ingredients.
Chi deve prestare attenzione
- Depigmenting agent that may produce unwanted cosmetic effects if not used as directed.
- Test skin sensitivity first by applying a small amount to an unbroken skin patch and checking within 24 hours; stop if itching, vesicle formation or excessive inflammation occurs.
- Avoid contact with the eyes.
