Per cosa si usa
Come agisce
Sodium is the principal extracellular cation and controls total body water and its distribution. Acetate is a hydrogen ion acceptor and an alternate source of bicarbonate through metabolic conversion in the liver.
Dose abituale nell'adulto (sintesi del foglio illustrativo)
Hyponatremia prevention or correction: intravenous only after dilution in a larger volume of fluid; dose and rate depend on individual patient needs; monitor serum sodium as a guide to dosage
Gravidanza e allattamento
- Gravidanza
- Safe An IV electrolyte added to fluids or nutrition to supply sodium or correct acidosis. No animal or human studies, but sodium and acetate are normal body components. Not expected to harm the fetus at doses that keep blood sodium and acid-base balance normal; monitor levels and fluid load.
- Allattamento
- Safe Sodium is a normal milk component and its milk level is tightly regulated; acetate is quickly metabolised. Usual IV doses are not expected to change milk or affect the infant. Acceptable while breastfeeding.
Effetti indesiderati segnalati
- Sodium overload
Controindicazioni
- Hypernatremia or fluid retention
Chi deve prestare attenzione
- Must be diluted before use. Infuse slowly to avoid sodium overload and water retention.
- Use with great care, if at all, in congestive heart failure, severe renal insufficiency, and edema with sodium retention.
- Use acetate with great care in metabolic or respiratory alkalosis. Excess administration may cause metabolic alkalosis.
