Sintesi
Bendroflumethiazide duplicates the thiazide-like diuretic already present as chlorthalidone. This increases the risk of hypokalaemia, hyponatraemia, hypotension, dehydration and metabolic disturbances without clear added benefit.
Cosa significa questa interazione in parole semplici
Atenolol-chlorthalidone and Bendroflumethiazide can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Perché avviene
Therapeutic duplication of thiazide-type diuretics produces additive natriuresis and potassium loss.
Cosa fare
Avoid combining two thiazide-type diuretics and stop one of them. If unavoidable, monitor electrolytes, renal function and blood pressure closely.
