Dipyridamole adds antiplatelet activity to dabigatran's anticoagulation and, as a P-glycoprotein inhibitor, may increase dabigatran exposure. Both effects raise bleeding risk, especially in renal impairment.
Cosa significa questa interazione in parole semplici
Dabigatran and Dipyridamole can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Perché avviene
Additive effects on hemostasis plus P-glycoprotein inhibition by dipyridamole that raises dabigatran levels.
Cosa fare
Monitor for bleeding and renal function. Avoid the combination in patients with reduced creatinine clearance, following dabigatran labeling for P-gp inhibitors.
