Resumo
Ethiodized oil is an iodinated contrast agent. When given intravascularly (for example lymphography or chemoembolization) it may impair renal function, raising the risk of metformin accumulation and lactic acidosis.
O que esta interação significa em palavras simples
Alogliptin-metformin and Ethiodized oil can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Por que acontece
Contrast-associated kidney injury reduces renal metformin clearance.
O que fazer
Hold metformin around intravascular administration in patients with eGFR below 30 or other risk factors. Restart after 48 hours once renal function is confirmed stable.
