Antifungal activity Alters cell membrane permeability, apparently by binding with phospholipids in the fungal cell membrane, causing essential intracellular elements to leak

Opharyngeal candidiasis (prophylaxis): 10 mg PO slowly dissolved in mouth tid or until steroids reduced to maintenance levels

- Safe Vaginal, skin and mouth forms give very little absorption, and studies show no rise in birth defects. A 7-day vaginal course is a preferred treatment for thrush in pregnancy; in late pregnancy insert pessaries by hand or with care.

- Safe Very little is absorbed from skin, vagina or mouth, so it is not expected in milk in meaningful amounts. Compatible with breastfeeding. If used on the nipple for thrush, wipe off before feeds.

- Hypersensitivity to clotrimazole or to any of the excipients in the formulation.

- Not for use when having vaginal intercourse
- May cause mild increase in vaginal burning, itching or irritation
