The OEP exam

Official: the exam is an OMSB exam. Under the OEP booklet (August 2025), candidates living in Oman sit it at OMSB in Muscat and those outside Oman at Pearson VUE centres worldwide. The format below is from that booklet unless marked.

How MediHelp exam prep works

  1. Practise by topic, difficulty or weak spots. Choose a module, a difficulty or let the app pick the topics you get wrong most.
  2. Sit timed mock exams. Timed mocks of 25 to 150 questions, so the pace feels familiar before the real exam.
  3. Learn from every explanation. Each question explains why the right option is right and why the others are wrong, with public references you can open.
  4. Review what you forget. A spaced-repetition review queue brings back the questions you missed or flagged.
  5. Track progress, study offline. See topic mastery and results. Modules you bought also work offline.

Free sample questions

These are original practice questions from the free sample set. Each shows the answer, an explanation and public references.

1. A 64-year-old man with symptomatic peripheral arterial disease (intermittent claudication, ankle-brachial index 0.72) has an LDL cholesterol of 3.4 mmol/L and no statin intolerance. His eGFR is 78 mL/min/1.73 m2. Which lipid-lowering regimen is most appropriate to start?

  1. Rosuvastatin 5 mg once daily
  2. Atorvastatin 80 mg once daily
  3. Simvastatin 20 mg once daily
  4. Pravastatin 20 mg once daily
Correct answer

B. Atorvastatin 80 mg once daily

Symptomatic PAD is clinical atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, so a high-intensity statin (atorvastatin 40 to 80 mg or rosuvastatin 20 to 40 mg) is recommended to lower LDL by at least 50%. Simvastatin 20 mg and rosuvastatin 5 mg are moderate-intensity doses, and pravastatin 20 mg is low intensity, so all three undertreat this very high-risk patient.

2. A preterm neonate in the NICU is receiving caffeine citrate for apnoea of prematurity. Doses are held because of tachycardia, and two serum caffeine concentrations are measured 24 hours apart with no dose in between: 20 mg/L, then 16 mg/L. Assuming first-order elimination, what is the elimination half-life? Round to the nearest whole hour.

  1. 60 h
  2. 75 h
  3. 108 h
  4. 172 h
Correct answer

B. 75 h

1) k = ln(C1/C2)/Δt = ln(20/16)/24 h = 0.2231/24 = 0.00930 h^-1. 2) t1/2 = 0.693/k = 0.693/0.00930 = 74.5 h. 3) Rounded to the nearest whole hour, the answer is 75 h. The 108 h option comes from forgetting the 0.693 term (1/k). The 172 h option comes from using log10 instead of ln. The 60 h option comes from assuming the concentration falls linearly.

3. During a medication review, a 66-year-old man is found to be taking omeprazole 20 mg daily. It was started 3 years ago as stress ulcer prophylaxis during an intensive care admission. He has no reflux symptoms, no history of peptic ulcer, and takes no NSAIDs, antiplatelets or anticoagulants. How should this drug-related problem be classified in his pharmaceutical care plan?

  1. Needs additional drug therapy
  2. Adverse drug reaction
  3. Unnecessary drug therapy
  4. Dosage too low
Correct answer

C. Unnecessary drug therapy

The medicine has no current valid indication. It was started only for short-term stress ulcer prophylaxis and was never stopped, so it is classified as unnecessary drug therapy. The care plan should include a deprescribing intervention, such as stepping down and stopping with monitoring for rebound symptoms. No untreated condition is described, so 'needs additional drug therapy' does not apply.
