Summary
Both drugs can prolong the QT interval, and beta-2 agonists can also cause hypokalemia and tachycardia. Together they may increase the risk of ventricular arrhythmias, especially in patients with cardiac disease or electrolyte disturbances.
What this interaction means in plain words
Amitriptyline and Indacaterol inhaled can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Additive QT prolongation and adrenergic cardiac stimulation; tricyclics also potentiate cardiovascular effects of beta-agonists.
What to do
Check baseline ECG and potassium and magnesium in patients with cardiac risk factors, and monitor for palpitations or arrhythmia. Consider an alternative if QTc is prolonged.
