Summary
Bowel-preparation salts can cause fluid loss and electrolyte shifts, including raised magnesium. Combined with a calcium channel blocker and an ACE inhibitor, this may add to hypotension, muscle weakness and renal impairment.
What this interaction means in plain words
Amlodipine-benazepril and Sodium sulfate / potassium sulfate / magnesium sulfate can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Additive vasodilatory effects of magnesium and calcium channel blockade, plus volume depletion and electrolyte disturbance that raise ACE inhibitor-related renal risk.
What to do
Ensure adequate hydration during bowel preparation and consider holding the ACE inhibitor on the day of preparation in volume-depleted or high-risk patients. Monitor blood pressure, renal function and electrolytes.
What to ask your pharmacist
