Summary
Tenofovir disoproxil and cobicistat can affect renal function, and cobicistat raises serum creatinine by inhibiting tubular secretion. Neomycin and polymyxin B are nephrotoxic if absorbed, so combined use may increase the risk of kidney injury.
What this interaction means in plain words
Bacitracin-neomycin-polymyxin and Elvitegravir / cobicistat / emtricitabine / tenofovir df can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Additive nephrotoxicity from proximal tubular effects of tenofovir and absorbed aminoglycoside or polymyxin.
What to do
Topical use on small areas needs no change. With systemic or extensive use, monitor serum creatinine, phosphate and urine protein, and avoid the combination if renal function declines.
