Summary
Methoxyflurane releases fluoride that can cause kidney toxicity, and absorbed neomycin or polymyxin B may add to this. Analgesic doses of inhaled methoxyflurane are low, and topical antibiotics on intact skin rarely reach significant systemic levels.
What this interaction means in plain words
Bacitracin-neomycin-polymyxin and Methoxyflurane can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Additive nephrotoxicity from fluoride-induced renal tubular injury and aminoglycoside/polymyxin toxicity.
What to do
Avoid combining where significant absorption of the antibiotic is likely, such as large wounds or irrigation. Monitor renal function if both are needed.
