Summary

Corticorelin is used to test the pituitary ACTH response, and corticosteroids suppress the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Systemic corticosteroid exposure can blunt the ACTH response and confound interpretation. Inhaled beclomethasone has less effect, but high doses may contribute.

What this interaction means in plain words

Beclomethasone and Corticorelin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Glucocorticoid negative feedback suppresses pituitary corticotroph responsiveness to corticorelin.

What to do

Interpret corticorelin test results with caution in patients on corticosteroids, and where feasible schedule testing in consultation with the endocrinologist regarding steroid timing.
