Summary

Corticosteroids can promote potassium loss, and thiazide diuretics do the same. With inhaled beclomethasone systemic exposure is low, so the added hypokalemia is usually small. It may matter at high doses or in patients with other risks for low potassium.

What this interaction means in plain words

Beclomethasone inhaled and Hydrochlorothiazide-telmisartan have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Additive potassium wasting from the mineralocorticoid activity of corticosteroids and the thiazide-induced increase in distal sodium delivery.

What to do

No routine action is needed at standard inhaled doses. Check serum potassium if high doses are used or the patient has other hypokalemia risk factors.
