Summary

Deferasirox can cause acute kidney injury and renal tubular toxicity, and streptomycin is nephrotoxic and ototoxic. Using them together raises the risk of kidney damage and can further impair clearance of streptomycin, increasing toxicity.

What this interaction means in plain words

Deferasirox and Streptomycin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Deferasirox belongs to Miscellaneous; Streptomycin belongs to Anti Bacterial.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Additive nephrotoxicity from two agents that injure renal tubular cells.

What to do

Monitor serum creatinine or creatinine clearance before and during combined therapy, and monitor streptomycin levels. Reduce or interrupt a drug if renal function declines.
