Summary

Dengue vaccine is a live attenuated vaccine, and immunosuppressive chemotherapy may blunt the immune response and raise the risk of vaccine-related infection. Patients receiving myelosuppressive chemotherapy are generally not candidates for live vaccines.

What this interaction means in plain words

Dengue vaccine and Ifosfamide can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Chemotherapy-induced immunosuppression reduces vaccine response and permits replication of live attenuated virus.

What to do

Avoid live dengue vaccine during chemotherapy and until immune recovery, per vaccine labeling and guidelines. Schedule vaccination well before treatment or after recovery.
