Summary

Aminoglycosides such as neomycin can potentiate neuromuscular blockade and may exaggerate the weakness caused by botulinum toxin. Neomycin absorption from topical otic/ophthalmic use is low, but it can be higher with a damaged tympanic membrane or broken skin.

What this interaction means in plain words

Dexamethasone-neomycin-polymyxin and Letibotulinumtoxina can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Aminoglycosides impair presynaptic acetylcholine release, adding to botulinum toxin neuromuscular blockade.

What to do

Monitor for excessive muscle weakness, swallowing or breathing difficulty after injection. Avoid systemic or heavily absorbed aminoglycoside exposure around the time of treatment.
